The Vegan Breakfast, featuring two vegan sausages, hash browns, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, vegan haggis, and toast, is an absolute must-try for plant-based eaters, all for a modest £7. It may not boast fancy décor, but the rustic charm and homemade feel of the meals make it a delightful retreat after a day of exploring the beautiful nearby attractions, such as Cromford Mill and High Peak Junction. Moreover, the added bonus of free Wi-Fi allows you to stay connected while you savor your meal.
Overall, The Tor Cafe is a testament to good food at accessible prices, offering a cozy atmosphere that draws customers back time and again. After all, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a hearty breakfast or a delightful toastie in a welcoming setting, surrounded by the stunning nature of Matlock?
Deceptively small on the outside and easy to miss as it is well tucked away at a junction but once you enter the cafe ; it is a warm cosy space with a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu that is served by enthusiastic staff. A regular jaunt for cyclists, it can be very busy during most times ( including winter). The prices are reasonable and the quality of food is very good. Flexibility in options is commendable. The table next to the counter is best avoided as it gets noisy with customers chatting away over your head and collecting orders. Will definitely be back . 30m parking on Mill Road . Free WiFi is a bonus as mobile reception is poor.
Lovely little cafe, friendly service with good variety on the menu including vegetarian/vegan options. My breakfast cob (Derbyshire word for roll/bap/breadcake/barmcake :) was really nice and good value too
I'd say the best place to go for breakfast, no frills, but the quality is good and portions generous. Nice staff and very accommodating. Very large menu considering the size of the place and very affordable too!
I've driven past this place so many times and never even realised it is a cafe. The vibe is perfect for the beautiful countryside, and the food was wonderful. I had the veganzilla and a toastie. I'm looking for excuses to return as soon as possible.
American tourist visiting Cromford Mill, Cromford Canal, and High Peak Junction. I visited Cromford on May 10 2025. The weather was great. It was sunny, warm, but not hot. By the end of my visit I was hungry so I stopped at Tor Cafe for something to eat. Tor Cafe is located on the corner of Derby Rd and Mill Rd. Tor Cafe is not a fancy place. But the place is run by locals. The food is good and reasonably priced. The staff is helpful and friendly. I got a little breakfast sandwich (ham, sausage, and egg), a cup of tea, and a shot of espresso. Tor Cafe has seating upstairs, outdoor dining, with tall trees providing shade on a warm day. It is a hole-in-the-wall. But it is a great little-hole-in-the-wall.
Great place for breakfast or lunch. Excellent veggie and vegan options. Great place to stop after a dog walk. Dog Friendly!
Great cafe - had a breakfast which was cooked with nice ingredients and really well
